Program

Liz LeBrun

Liz LeBrun is an experienced special educator, as well as an adoptive parent and advocate for children on the autism spectrum.

Liz became an accidental expert on the debilitating impact of systemic barriers on families when the demands of advocacy forced her to shelf her career aspirations and become a full-time ‘squeaky wheel’ for her children. Even with an extensive background in special education, Liz was not immune to the powerlessness and isolation that are, too often, a hallmark of parenting children who struggle to access education. Liz’s lived experience as a parent has significantly evolved her perceptions and practices when serving vulnerable children and collaborating with their families.

The experiences of autistic people and their families are as broad as the autism spectrum itself. In this panel discussion, families will share the ups and downs of their journeys and lessons learned along the way. They will share perspectives on what worked and what didn’t while navigating their own unique path.
